Description
Heat shrink tubing is used to protect and reinforce ropes where they are at risk of abrasion or need protection for other reasons.
Material and properties: Heat shrink tubing is made of a highly durable and resistant thermoplastic that shrinks, strengthens and hardens slightly when heated and cooled. The inside of the tubing is applied with adhesive to ensure it securely adheres after installation, preventing it from slipping off under heavy wear or load.
Applications: Heat shrink tubing is used to protect ropes from abrasion. Here are some examples of its applications:
Climbing ropes: To prevent the end of a climbing rope from fraying, heat shrink tubing can be applied to the end.
Handles: On items like battle ropes (exercise ropes), heat shrink tubing is often used on the ends as handles, providing a more comfortable and stable grip than the rope itself.
Protective cover: Sometimes end fittings or fittings for climbing ropes are mounted on ropes using screws, nuts and bolts. To protect users from injuring their hands on the hard metal parts, heat shrink tubing can be applied over the fittings.
Advantages: Heat shrink tubing makes ropes stronger and more resistant to wear, effectively protecting them from external impacts.
